Refinishing fake stone signs

I have a client who has several existing signs that look like granite but are a man made material. They have had some damage and need refinishing. They have tried contacting the manufacturer who hasn't responded. Here is how the material is described...."a mixture of various aggregates and resins manufactured to resist fading, breaking, cracking and chipping. Sign color is integral throughout by using specialty colorants in the base material. Our products are sealed with a U.V. inhibited/graffiti resistant clear-coat to extend exterior durability"
I'm thinking of stripping the paint, lightly sanding, using some body putty on the damaged spots (fortunately there are only a couple). Then using concrete stains to finish the background and lettering enamel for the letters. I can test on the back of the panel.
Anyone have any experience they could share on working with this type of material?

Yep. The customer hasn't been able to get them to respond.
My concern is how the material will take a stain and especially the repaired areas.
But since those few damaged areas are on the edge I may just go with a different color that will hide the repair.

At first thought - I would use filler to fill the holes, then tape it off and use the "faux stone" spray paint around the edges. But, this isn't my usual cup of tea.
