Replacing DX4 head in Roland SP300V

Hello All,

I just finished installing a DX4 head in my Roland SP300V printer/cutter. The installation was the easy part, however getting the service manual, access code and the proper head was a challange. Kind of a bummer when your all set to install a head only to find the HEAD RANK won't install. I suggest before you purchase a new head that they give the HEAD RANK number so you know it's good.

I have been making notes in the manual pertaining to installations and things to be aware of BEFORE the service is performed. If there's anyone interested in contributing insights and information to the manual let me know. I think it would be great that we all could have the same manual and share what we know.

Best Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve,

That is a great idea to make notes so others can benefit from what you learned, I have NOT yet had to change my head(s) on my SP-540V (same as the SP-300V), so I can't offer any help with that, but I plan to change my own heads when the need comes.

The physical part does seam easy enough, however as you say, I have read head ranking is the difficult part (I don't even know what that is).

I would like to offer my help and contribute to your quest is creating a HEAD CHANGING GUIDE that we could openly share with other owners of theses printers to help in the process.

I worked for Dell Computers and Texas Instruments and have created illustrative graphics showing how to do different service functions for their Service Manuals, so if you need any help with that I would be glad to assist you with that. We can even create a PDF document with text and graphics showing the step by step process involved for how to change your own print head(s).

If you are interested in my help, send me a PM?

Thanks for your efforts in advance.

Alignment issues

I just did a thorough cleaning on my SP-300 and am finding the issue to be printhead alignment. I can't find anywhere how to properly align the heads, do you have some knowledge on the subject you could share? :banghead:

Not much help here, but when I had a tech align mine he did it manually with the screws on the print-head plate, then fine tuned it with the software in the
service mode. If you have a service manual PDF it should outline that procedure.
