Roland GS 24 will not cut on a roll

My GS will not cut off a roll of calendared vinyl, but will cut on a piece/scrap of vinyl? Test prints fine as well!

Any ideas why it will not cut off of a roll? It has always done it, so no clue as to why not. Help! Thanks.

Are you using CutStudio? We are having the no-cut problem, but haven't tried the Piece workaround - yet!

Be extremely careful, that the media doesn't lift up from the sensor. (I once drove 350 miles to tell a customer to move the cutter a little farther from the wall in the back...)

Thanks, but this appears to be a software problem. The Test cut will execute fron the control panel. When sending from CutStudio the cutter is communicating - it will move the substrate to the origin - but nothing cuts. Our cutter is a GX-24.

I don't know when Sherri, the OP, noticed this. We use the GX-24 very infrequently and this is a new problem. I suspect a software update broke something, but have not had time to get back to this to do further troubleshooting.

The last Windows update (11 June) stopped my GR-540 from cutting. It might be worth uninstalling those and trying again.

Uninstall KB5039211 (Win10) or KB5039212 (Win11)

It will reinstall itself after a day or so. Move quickly, because eventually these updates become permanent.

there is a process to "freeze" windows updates, FOR A WHILE, & IF YOU GOOGLE,
THEY CLAIM you can EXCLUDE AN UPDATE from the process

Came here to say thanks - I thought I was going crazy! worked one day - didn't the next, I have uninstalled the update twice now - its tedious and time consuming - it would be great to be able to permanently freeze the updates or have them set to a manual install.

Edited to add that I've just had a look in advanced settings under Windows Update and found the ability to extend pausing updates to the 26th July - approx 5 weeks - still not perfect but better than having to pause every 7 days.

If anyone does manage a new update and their machine still works afterwards, it would be great for an update - at least we'll all know when Microsoft have got their end sorted.

the last windows up-date totally stopped any communication i had between illustrator and my GX-24 - i tried anything and anything to get cut-studio to work again and got nothing! i found a far better cutting software extension to put into illustrator than cut-studio on line - loaded it and it CUT FASTER and was MUCH EASER TO USE! - you can try a demo before to make sure it works :) https://xfcut.com/store/

In case anyone has further issues, KB5040442 installs after KB5039212 preventing the original update from being uninstalled. Uninstall 0442 then you'll be able to uninstall 9212.

True! This will work until the next feature update, so it only holds for roughly 6 months. This tool also doesn't appear to work if you've already paused updates.
