Roland SP-540 Encoder Strip Problem

Hey there we've been having some issues with our printer SP-540. We've changed the encoder strip and the machine prints fine for a couple of hours and goes bad again. Also getting Disconnected Carriage message from time to time + the printer contour cut is off. Sometimes it cuts not to bad and then all of a sudden it goes way off. Anybody have the same issue let us know...

We had the same issue when printing some 7mil static cling for a client. The over spray was so bad it eventually stopped printing giving the carriage disconnected error.
Pulled all the covers and gave the poor thing a "bath". It's rockin' now.

We will never use that material again.

BTW certain 3rd party inks have massive over spray issues that will cause all sorts of havoc too.

One last thing is to keep your humidity levels close to 60%.

Just went through exactly the same scenario with our SP540-v. Turned out to be a shot ribbon cable, the flat group of wires above the encoder strip. Had a tech replace it and now she's as good as new!
Apparently it's a fairly common issue.
