Can someone please tell me where the little thermistor board is located on this printer...Please tell me its not under the bed....If so how in the world do you get the bed off...its got a flat plate and a fan screwed to it and the heater board is in the way to?

I change one on a vp540 the other day and it was on the front and easy to get to??

If you are talking about the thermistor for the platen heaters, then yes, it is under the bed. Both the thermistor and thermostat are screwed to the underside of the platen, and attached to the heater control board, which is also under the platen.

You can at least see them if you take off the front and back aprons (the shiny flat steel, not the matte round aluminum) that are held on by just a few screws. With both off you can see clean through to the other side, and if you have nimble fingers and a REALLY short screwdriver (like a socket that holds screwdriver bits) you can get the thermistor out without removing the platen.

Is there two different thermistors? One for the dryer and one for the printer.... took the aprons off...There is a flat plate under the bed platen...it has a fan even tied to it...I traced one thermistor to the dryer and another one going through the plate up inside the platen?

yup, print and dryer thermistors. Since they are separately adjustable, they need independent thermistors. The fan is the vacuum, since it's exposed it's a good idea to look at the exhaust on the back to see if it's packed with crud, and clean out if needed.

Yes ...Thank You Ragnabrok....That's how I got to the print thermistor...took the fan off and it was right above it....only problem now is getting it out....seems to be wire tied underneath the bed

There may be some plastic clips or zip ties holding it in, but the tip is held in by a screw. This is as long as your looking at the thermistor, and not the thermostat, which looks like a speaker magnet with 2 wires attached to it.

Not that I have any issues right now, but would the SP-540V be the same as the SP-300 as far as replacing the thermistors?

Same deal on the SP-540, just between the 2 fans.

almost always it's between the thermistor, thermostat or the heater board, one or a combination of those 3 is the likely cause. I think there are some fuses on the heater board, they'd be worth a look any way.

Another trick if your shop is quiet, fire up the printer in service mode, in heater menu you can turn service mode heat on or off, when you turn in on, you should hear the relays on the heater board "tick" to turn on the heaters. They do this when you turn the printer on as well, but the motor and pumps and vacuums make it hard to hear.
