Roland Versacamm sp300 print head replacement??

Hi everyone just checking to see if I likely need a print head replacement. Used this printer almost 15 years ago and just recently got back into the game by buying the same model used. Works great except for the black. I've manually clean and done many cleans with no success. I've been avoiding black when possible but getting busier and that obviously isn't an option I can keep doing. I've attached a screen shot of the best I can get for the black. I'm assuming the previous owner had some head strikes. Anyway, wanted to get some opinions before I go through with the replacement. I do have a new print head and service manual, so I'll go the DIY route based on the feedback. I just find it odd that there is nothing wrong with the other colors...only black. Because of the SP300 is on the market since the end of 2003, you propably haven't used that printer 15 years ago .

Regarding to the nozzle test, you should replace the Black/Cyan-Printhead. It isn't odd that black only have problems, all colors are fired from different nozzle groups, and of course the blacks only can be defective.

You should try a head soak, and replace the caps if they are not fresh. Do not replace head yet.

Is there any info on how to properly do a head soak? Caps are on their way, changed wipers as well. Still the same test print.

• A head soak is filling the caps with cleaning fluid, then put the heads back into the parked position. You need to pinch off the captops' drain tubes so the fluid does not drain. Turn off printer so the pump doesn't run. You move the heads on and off the caps with the manual cleaning routine or I have done it with the head height routine.
  
  -Move heads over.
  -Pinch tubes.
  -Fill caps with cleaner.
  -Move heads back.
  -Turn off printer.
  
  If your heads have multiple colours in 1 head you can get cross contamination. I have also pulled out inks after the printer is off to try to stop that.

Head Soaking has worked great for me on my SP540V, sometimes I have had to let it soak over night for 8-12 hours!

Give it a try first!
