roland VS-420 black dots forming stripes in print,, HELP??

hello,

i'm new at this forum so please say it when i am doing something wrong :D.

I'm the proud owner of a roland GX-24 and the versaCAMM VS-420. The vs 420 i now used for about a month. Real nice piece of machinery but last monday something went wrong.
I discovered that the printing head of the vs420 was going bad. When i print a square of magenta or yellow i can see stripes of black pixels through the color. Is there something wrong with the printing head or is it something electrical?? i did a few powerfull cleanings and i renewed the ink. calibrated everthing but the stripe with the wrong color in the test print below won't go away. I think the stripes on the print have something to do with that one stripe in the test print. any suggestions???

thnx.

You have a bit of cross-contamination in your Yellow channel. The good news is that this is not an electrical issue, and should be fixable at a modest cost. I would suggest:

1. Replace the Yellow damper. Optionally, you might choose to replace all dampers at the same time.
2. Replace the cap-top.
3. Run a couple of normal cleanings, or use a syringe to pull Yellow ink through the head (from below) to get the remaining contaminated ink out of the head.
4. You should be good to go after this.

If that doesn't work try cleaning the encoder strip with a lint free cloth, dust on the encoder strip will sometimes tell the head to randomly spray a ink channel

i cleaned the encoder strip as said. i couldn't a difference in print result so i tried the second option. I am going to order a 6 month maintenance kit from digiprint-suppliers with 4 dampers included. anyone familliar with this supplier??

What does the face of the head look like? I had a head strike once made a little dent the head. It printed fine for 5 months then I had the same problem that you are having.

digiprint-supplies - many people on signs101 uses them. http://www.digiprint-supplies.com. good supplier :peace!:

Are you using factory Roland inks? Ink quality has direct effect on the prints. Remove the cartridge and take a photo of what you see on the cartridge and let us know. If the ink is the factor of this problem, you might still be able to fix it. The longer you wait, the worst it gets. Is your working area AC-conditioned? Lots of dust? How do you clean your printhead regularly? With Q tips or solvent resistant swabs? There are many people on signs101 post very useful tips so you can study and go from there.

so i just bought this machine 2 months ago and it was working perfect untill now. I performed every cleaning as shown in the user guide and i am using eco sol max inkt cartridges. 10 minutes ago i removed the dampers i notices that in the black-yellow damper, the yellow was dark . much darker that in it was in the tube. maybe some of the black is mixing with yellow??? i am using those little swabs with a bottle of cleaning liquid i got from the previous owner to do my manual cleaning.

That is cross-contamination, and it can result from a failure of the one-way valve in the damper. Replace the damper(s) and possibly the cap top and you should be able to clear this up.

i found two cap tops on digiprint-supplies that would fit my VS-420, one says :capping unit, and the other says: assy, cap top , which one should i order??

the maintenance kit just arrived. i now have the parts for replacing the dampers and the capping. My question is: should i pull inkt through the new dampers after i connected the tubes or can the machine do that itself??

just replaced the dampers and the cap top. First thing i noticed is that yellow is printing perfect al the other colors too but magenta shows the same stripes with black dots and i just noticed that the yellow damper keep giving inkt so it is dripping al over the cap top and underneath. i am going to but the old damper in for yellow and see what it is going to do. I getting a bit pissed off due too this problem..
