Roland XC-540

So I have aquired and XC-540 that has been sitting for probably a year. I've gotten all heads to come back except magenta. It's won't even try to print 1 single line. This has got me thinking it's something else because I took the head out and flushed it with cleaning solution and could see the nozzles squirting. Is there something or someway else to test and make sure it's electronically working? Is there a fuse that controls each head maybe? I pulled ink through the damper with a syringe so ink seems to be moving through the lines. Anyone have any ideas I could try?

Oh yah and I replace the cap top for the magenta and when I do a clean no ink shows on it. Is there a separate pump for each color?

Heads

Sounds like bad ribbon cables or a blown fuse, there are not pumps for each head. you can switch the head to another spot and see if it works. PM me and ask me for a tech manual.

So I have gotten magenta to come back but now it seems like I'm not getting any improvement on my noz checks no matter what I do. I don't think I'm getting good suction... I did put a new cap top in but not sure it did anything. Is there a way to test it? Or any suggestions from these pics what I should do now?

You have some major deflection in that Magneta channel. From the looks of the Star pic you posted, looks to be out of alignment, but could just be the deflection. Disconnect the captop, and pinch it off, then fill the captop with cleaning solution. Let it "Soak" for an hour. Reconnect the captop to the pump, run a medium cleaning. If you have some improvement...ie less delfection, repeat until deflection is gone. If no improvements then a new head is needed.

So I put a clear hose on the magenta cap top (wich is a new captop) and I did a medium clean like you said and no ink is pumping. That's gotta be why it's not getting any better with the cleans. So you guys think the pump is clogged? Or is there something else that can cause that? Whats the black manifold on top of the print head? I mean how do I know if that's a problem? (I ask because I see it on parts websites)

I would gently touch M and K heads with a solution soaked swab.

But that's me.

Oh I have no problem doing that... I have nothing to lose really. I'm just thinking that I should have ink pumping throught that magenta head into the waist tank when doing cleans and I see no movement in the line so It has me thinking it's something else.

K so now I have another question. I put brand new inks in this thing and I check them manully and they all still feel pretty full... but on the printer they show empty. Could that be the problem? Is there a way to reset them or bypass that? Could it think it's out of ink and that's why it's not pumping ink? Or is it not that smart?

The roland chip is basically a dummy chip. You don't need to worry about the issue.

1. Damper, o ring under the screw nut, cap top, manifold are the first to check.
2. Clamp the cap top hose so you can fill the cleaning solution to soak the head over night. Sometimes over the weekend is good.
3. Swap the heads so you can rule out the problem is from the head or not. Heads are exchangable. j
4. Then next should be the electronics - Macmedia is a good place to go.

Do at your own risk -
