Need Help Roland XC-540

Hi, I’m very new to the printing world and came across a Roland Pro III XC 540
Everything is functioning properly except the dreaded test print, the seller says the black head needs to be replaced but what I’m wondering is if I can clean it, soak it to bring it back to life? I’ll try and link a picture of the test prints.

You have issues with 4 heads - black, yellow, light cyan (multiple missing nozzles) and light magenta (heavy deflection). Were the test prints done while you were there and at what settings? You are looking at least $2500 to bring it up to spec, and that is just heads, dampers and labor. Not trying to discourage you, just go in with knowledge. It is a great printer, very reliable and an excellent choice for an older printer. A few questions to ask would be when it was last serviced and if it has been sitting for a period of time.

Hi, thank you for the reply. I have not even seen the printer in person yet. I’m not sure what the settings were when the prints were done. I will be going to see it next week and have given the guy a $500 CDN deposit, he was asking $3500 but I’ve got him down to $2500.... I’m not sure there’s a big demand for this model but it will work for my needs. If you say it’s going to cost me another $2500 just to get it working right I may as well try and get it for $2k. Thank you and I’ll be asking more questions for sure.

You will definitely want to see it print yourself. I would suggest the following printing tests. A test print (nozzle check), the fill test in service mode, and the attached Onyx quality test printed at a standard setting - 720x720 8 pass bidirectional. See the attached file to enter service mode. The fill test is found in the service menu, print menu, test print, fill test. During the fill test, you want to watch the ink laydown, looking for streaks or missing sections. Also watch for overspray on the edges and if the edges print sharply. The fill test runs at the same settings as Versaworks standard print mode, so it's a good indicator of printhead performance, but with pure colors.
