Sand blast stencil questions

I have a job that requires the HDU to be sandblasted and this is my first time using the sandblast material. Normally i have the HDU cnc routered but the customer wants a stucco finish on the background. My question is do i have to primer the HDU prior to putting on the sand blast masking? For some reason i thought i needed to do something before putting the masking down. The sand blast mask is a high strength version if that makes a difference. Any comments will be great. Thanks

I always prime first. I think it gives the masking a little more "Hang On" ability. Plus when you take the mask off ...your ready to paint

better safe than sorry... a coat of primer costs WAY less than another HDU board should the mask give way.
