Sandblasting Sidewalks/Rock/etc.. Newbie ?

Hi..

So I've been thinking about this sandblasting stuff, and I've never done it, but want to try.

I'm figuring I could cut whatever on vinyl masking, and then sandblast it. My question is.. What's a good portable sandblaster where you could do letters, and designs on glass, rock, granite, etc...? Any tips?

From what I gather you want to do monuments, boulders with street numbers etc... right? So here is what I learned from hanging out with a buddy who blasted.

Scooter had an engine driven screw compressor with a 200lb pot, may have been a 300lb not sure on that. He got out of the biz some time ago. The beast had a 6 cylinder John Deere diesel. Bought it all for a song as a guy was retiring and the rig needed a little TLC.

Here's the thing, CFM equals speed and ability. Don't skimp. I believe Scooter's cranked out a minimum 135 to 140 CFM. He got in, got it done, got out.

One other thing. Get a hood with a positive pressure breathing set-up.

Cool...that's just what we do. Visit the forum at Cutting Edge Sandcarving http://www.cuttingedgesandcarving.com for just about the very best information in all areas of sandblast engraving and etching.

I first joined it seven years ago and started my business only one year later.

I do mostly stone, and very little glass (mainly for gifts).

Check out my photo albums on my facbook page at http://www.facebook.com/jarsaco to see what's possible. You'll need to use heavy monument stencil (Anchor 116 /117) to do the rocks and granite.

I suggest you do some serious reading up on the subject and then rent some equipment before investing.
