Saving Print & Contour files in Flexi

I do alot of Print and Cut of vinyl and I have always saved my files in an archive because I get repeat calls for some of them and that way I have the same Job file and colors should be close. The trouble is I can not figure out if there is a way to open those files along with the associated contour cut file into Production Manager and have it work. I save the .fjb file and the .job file in a separate folder. But if I open them back up in Production Manager the registration marks or in My case the alignment box that Mutoh uses is not there so there is no way to contour cut.

Hope this makes sense. Does anyone know if this is possible?

i would like to know that answer ... right now i just save the design and rip it again when needed. i don't know if being able to open in production manager would be a whole lot faster?

I'm not sure I understand you. Can't you just open the .FS file and print/cut from that? We save all job files with a reference number for future use. If I need to reproduce a print/cut job, I open the existing file, step and repeat the appropriate number of said design and RIP the file. Are you trying to skip opening the file in Flexi and just sending the job directly to PM? Because if you open the job and RIP it, Flexi will automatically create the cut file for you. Sorry if I'm completely misunderstanding what you're trying to accomplish.

When a print/cut file is deleted from production manager it's associated cut file is also deleted.

Yes I can just open the FS file and send it. You are able to save the RIP files in PM and I do that just as a Archive. But if you open that Rip file and the Contour cut file that was created with it into PM after saving it they are no longer asociated and registration marks don't print with the file.

I just wonder if it was possible to save it in a way that the registration marks will print if the file is opened again? I'm probably not explaining myself well.

Gotcha. I don't know if that will work or not. I don't archive RIPed jobs in PM. It doesn't seem like it would really save that much time to do it that way rather than opening the fs file, unless you were doing multiple copies of something that took a long time to RIP. But even in that instance, it seems like saving that RIP file would use a lot of resources. Do you have a bunch of RIP files archived? Do you use them often? Interesting topic.

to accomplish this you will need to use the format "native file" when you save the files. This will create a PRT and PLT file which can later be added and sent in sequence to the devices.

On sending the PLT file, it will automatically start searcing the registration marks.

For hybrid devices, you only will need to save a single file in .PRT format.

Matt:

Is that something new with the V8 series?

I have tried that with V7 series and I could never get it to work.

give me a call next week and I can take a look why it doesn't work on your system. It is not new to 8 so I have to see what is stopping it from saving.
