Scammers have changed tactics for sign people

Got a call today for an aluminum sign request. Needed it made of 080. He wanted my e-mail address to send the details.

Now.. I actually have several different online listings so usually I ask what city are you in? He couldn't answer and wanted local pickup and I told him I don't have local pickup. Then he asked if I could use his shipping company. Now I was 100% sure this was some sort of scam and I told him this was a scam which he denied. I asked him where his company is located and he wouldn't tell me and kept insisting I give him my email address.



They use to do this online via e-mail but this was the first phone call I got... and it was from a 650 area code.

Just wanted to give ya'll a heads up.

The area code is meaningless on caller ID now; they spoof those. Our "your Google listing may be out of date" calls all have what look like local numbers on caller ID now. And the ones about credit card processing new rates from new law/regulation" calls do it too.

So this caller just wanted one sign on .080? Not 150 reading "Jesus loves you" or whatever they ask for?

I don't know how many they wanted.. I asked what did they want on there and he said "something" enterprises. (This was in a heavy African accent and it was hard to make out what he was saying)

Couldn't tell me the size, where they were going or anything else...all he wanted to do was get my e-mail address

I don't know how it's done, but I was told, these people doing the spamming have some sorta setup which finds a phone number, not being used and can latch onto it and it comes in using local numbers. I had a customer call me a few weeks or months back and started talking to them, when I figured out, it wasn't them. I'm answering alotta calls with just..... Hello ?? Seldom is it anything worthwhile.

There is some scam going around that they will e-mail you and claim to have hacked into your webcam and caught you pleasuring yourself. They then threaten to e-mail that video to everyone in your contacts unless you pay them $$$.

Those scams...
What happens is, a website you've probably signed up to with an email and password got hacked and they've gotten their user database and posted it on a website listing most likely on the dark web.
They've gotten your details and emailed you your password that they've gotten from that hacked website and saying it's a porn site blah blah blah they've got you on webcam having "fun" ect ect. pay $1000 or so into a bitcoin address and they've sent it via a temporary email address.

If that happens to you, check this website out and test your email and see what websites have been hacked. then proceed to change passwords where they matter or delete accounts that you dont need

I worked with a guy that got taken for a ride with the Nigerian scrap rail scheme. It was funny, went on for months and he was ultra secretive about it and thought we would were gonna sidestep him to steal his opportunity. He kept saying hes working a multi million dollar scrap deal and would be all set as soon as it came through. He had to be in for at least $50k-100k before he started getting frustrated and spilled a little info to a coworker and we figured it out.
He fell for it cuz at the time, he was good friends with a big scrap dealer and we were selling processing equipment. He honestly thought these people sought him up to partner with them because of his experience. Greedy idiot.

We've got our email address on our website and I'll bet I get one or two scammer emails a week from t-shirts to banners. Occasionally I'll play along with their game for a little while just to amuse myself, waste their time, and tick them off. I think the funniest thing about the email scammers is their names are usually always two first names, like Gary Michael or Jacob Robert. I can almost always spot a scam email without even opening it up just based on the name and subject line.

not entirely true, it doesn't have to be an unused number. I get calls all the time, and have called someone back myself, and they say they have never called me...

I even had my own cell call into my house once, so I knew something was up...

The one I like the best is the Indian guy or girl telling me they can fix my Windows system on my computer. I do not have any Windows system because I am just a Mac user.

My wife got a solicitation call that showed the call coming from her number one time.
