The manufacturer of Sign Gold Says to edge seal cut graphics with a Seal-It edge sealer pen. However, if I were to lay down a black cast vinyl outline then Sign Gold over the top, could I and perhaps should I seal it instead with a clear cast laminate that extends 1/4" beyond the edge of the black base vinyl? To me this seems like it would be a better way if you could apply it with few air bubbles. Is this doable, or should I rely on sealing the edge with the Seal-It pen instead? This would be my first time working with Sign Gold.

Any related advice for working with this material would be great. I tried searching the archives but didn't find much that I was looking for. Also searched the manufacturer's site and a few other places for info on laminating Sign Gold and had no luck, just found the Seal-It pen recommendation.

Absolutely you can. In many cases I consider it the best method on some vehicles especially. I find the Seal-It Pen pretty much worthless if edge sealing once the vinyl has been installed on a vertical surface. Personally, I would keep the overlap of clear laminate down to no more than 1/8".

Okay, I was figuring if I had too small of an overlap, the edges might lift eventually. Is post heating of the clear laminate critical or will heat damage the gold leaf material at all?

We use clear cast over edge printed sign gold, with about 1/8" trap. No need to heat if applied well.

Thanks for the pointers, guys. I've never applied a clear laminate to trap the vinyl underneath so I wasn't sure how well that would work, but it sounds like it will work just fine.
