Seiko 64S ink problem

This morning, I ran a normal cleaning on my Seiko Colorpainter 64S. When the cleaning was done, it said "Open R cover, change magenta ink", no biggie, I took it out, the cartridge felt pretty empty, so I changed it out.

Then I send a job to the printer. It kicks on and starts preheating, but it also sounds like it is running a lot of ink thru the right side. Then I hear, beep beep beep, and the display says "Open R cover, change magenta ink". I take it out, it's still full, so I slide it back in, but the message won't disappear and I can't print on the machine.

Does anyone know why it might not be reading this new cartridge?? Help!!

I have the same printer. Nice printer, but I also had the same problem once. Ended up going through 3 yellow ink cartridges and had to have a tech visit to figure out the issue. I would call them. Might be a bad ink cartridge, and might be the pump.

Pump should give an error message. My bet is chip. Easy to find out, put the old cartridge back in and see if it reads.

From my experience I got no error message other than the "replace ink cartridge", and if the pump runs longer than I think 30 seconds it could be causing your problem. I would call.

In my experience, the pump just runs until the sub-tank is back to full - if it was getting near empty it will run for a bit

I will put a different magenta cartridge in and see if that works.

the problem with calling a service tech is that we cannot find a decent one in colorado, i have been doing all maintenance and repairs myself using the service manual...i think with a pump problem i'd be in over my head. i will keep you guys updated and let you know if it's maybe just a bad cartridge.

been working on my seiko myself for some time now, the techs down here are too freaking expensive and not very good.

750 to walk through the door then what I charge for a bucket truck on site with two men by the hour with a two hour minimum. No thanks, I'll fix it myself.

i have two printers, one was working fantastically, the other was a piece of crap. we brought the tech in, for some reason he thought he could make the #1 printer even better than it was....and it is printing at about 50% the quality it was before, and he had to come out 5 or 6 times to continue messing with it and it just kept getting worse.

now i'm stuck with one non-functional printer, and one sub-par printer. fantastic.

when i first put in the new cartridge it looked like it was going to work. then i ran a cleaning, the pump worked for a while, and it then it beeped a couple of times and said to replace the magenta cartridge again.

hmmm maybe it does flag an error if the pump tries to work but no ink is entering the sub-tank....I would open up the compartment with the pumps and feel the line to see if it feels clogged (the tubing down there is soft, so it should be easy to tell) -- or the needle that punctures the cart is bent/clogged

where would those lines be, in the area where the cartridges are inserted, or how do i access them?
