I'm not a big fan of Illy's built-in repeats tool. Too many steps to get clean artwork.
I have used PowerScripts for years. They have a repeat tool. It has auto numbering and other nice things as well.

Now that actually looks promising.

However I can't stress how easy the alt-shift-drag, and then ctrl-d thing is. It takes 5 seconds to do once you're used to it...

Here's what I assume Victor and I both do.

You can see how you'd get pretty fast at it. Sure it would be nice to have it be one-click, but it's not breaking the bank if it takes you 20-30 seconds a few times a day.
