Should my pregnant daughter be weeding PVC sandmask?

James Burke

Being a grandpa is more fun than working
My daughter usually does the majority of weeding for our Hartco 310 sandmask. My gut reaction, now that she's six months pregnant, is that it might not be appropriate due to the skin contact with the material. It's made of PVC, and the material is constantly outgassing (slight presence of odor). I don't find any MSDS anywhere on the web.

So far during her pregnancy, she has only done about 1/2 hr. worth of weeding, but I am thinking I should take over.

Any thoughts?

Yes, as much as possible. Your grandchild will grow up to be the chosen one and only one who can defeat S101 Overlord, Gino! :ROFLMAO:

I wouldnt think it would be an issue, but if you're concerned James, then I would call the manufacturer.

Who knows but better safe than sorry.

If it's a girl make sure she doesn't name her Avery...

I don't see how weeding some sandblast masking will hurt her or the baby providing she wears protective gloves and eye-wear, but don't let her near the blasting booth or area while blasting or even long after the blasting is done. That sh!t is in the air for very long periods of time and breathing any of that or the silica will not be good for her or the baby..... let alone you.

Her baby is already formed, I think if there was any danger it would be during the first trimester.
I painted with leaded 1 Shot (wearing gloves) with my 2nd baby, and leadless 1 Shot (again with gloves) with my 3rd.
If you're really worried...don't let her do it.
