One question about weighing the packages before you ship - why do you weigh small packages when the carriers weigh them either way and bill according to their own weight/size (dimensional weight) measurements?

i have been in ecommerce for 15 years and have never owned a package scale or weighed a package
if you use one of those shipping add ins that compare rates between different SHIPPING choices it is necessary. also if a quote is requested. (I AM ANSWERING BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH LARGE SHIPPING CLIENTS. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FIRESPRINT EXCEPT WHAT I LEARNED FROM THE VIDEO)

how are you charging your customers the correct pricing?
Free shipping (shipping baked into the product price)

but shipping quotes you see during checkout on sites are based on product weights entered in the product details., not actual package scale weight. You could have all your weights set up in product details and then get a pretty accurate weight that way without each package

That makes sense for rate shopping but could just have preset weights in product details and get pretty close to actual package weight

Ya know, with all the info firesprint shares about every aspect of their business, becoming the UK equivalent yourself would probably be fairly simple... There is of course the people they've employed that can't be copied, and is often the secret sauce for many successful businesses...

I actually thought the same thing about setting up a Canadian version of Firesprint, but honestly don't think I could ever come close to filling Gene's shoes. I don't know how you have the energy to do everything that you do but I definitely admire it. I aspire to run my company as smoothly and efficiently as you guys do over there at Firesprint someday! Keep up the good work and thanks for bringing us all along for the ride.

Hope you guys find this interesting! Let me know if you want to know more about anything you see! Would love to see any of your shop tour videos or photos as well! Post them below!

Loved this tour Gene, thanks for sharing. Pretty cool seeing the combination of serious firepower and simple systems & improvements in action.

Are you guys looking at misters for your humidity control? I remember seeing that in a big local screenprint shop and always thought it was a pretty smart way to pump moisture into the air.

We had an inline steam humidifier installed a few years into our HVAC system in the production area but they get all corroded due to constant moisture and fry themselves after a couple of years. Replaced it twice and have given up on that method. Bought a cheapish humidifier from Amazon and it will easily bump humidity in our shop by 15-20% within a couple of hours, but leaves a white film on everything due to the minerals in our tap/city water. So now I'm looking at either using bottled/distilled water in it ($$ - it will blow through 50 liters a day if it's cranked up) or having some sort of in-line filter installed on our water line to remove as much of the minerals as possible.

I'd be curious to know more about misters or what you guys are looking at, and if it requires some kind of in-line mineral filtration.

For now we'll keep using a combination of the humidifier and just hosing the shop down a few times a day as we get into the colder/dryer half of the year.

It's not hard so to speak. It's having a plan, putting it into place and doing it.
if you want to be whole sale only, you need to market that. have workflows for each product. limit your products.
make sure your pricing is low enough for resell, high enough to make a profit.

theres more than that, but being whole sale vs retail is quite different.

Because we quote and print labels at the time of shipping. With our free shipping option, we ship using the lowest cost while honoring the shortest transit days. We use FedEx, UPS, and SpeeDee. This requires accurate package information to choose the best carrier.

I know we have a few systems we're considering. Yes, they need a reverse osmosis system ahead of the misters to remove minerals and keep everything functioning nicely. Not sure of the brands we are researching off hand, but we'll definitely do a video when we do nail it down.

Love it! The cool thing about being a trade printer, we win when you win. It's more fun to be on your side.

We have figured a few things out, but we have a lot to learn too. Copy as much as you feel would help you!
That cliche is nails on a chalkboard for me. And actually it's when I win the job then you win the business ..if we like what you're offering.
