Sign Gold Pricing...

We are doing a few fire trucks, they want the real stuff, which is expensive...what kind of markup would you think was acceptable...our installers are good but even a smallest screw-up will cost a lot to fix, plus edge sealing, plus cast base vinyl.

Just looking for ball parks or how you would do it...

The SignGold kit used to come with a price list.
I'd base it off of that.
Or try materials X3.
"The Real Stuff" would be actual gilding, in my opinion, which is in and of itself an art form.

You're contradicting yourself. The real thing will not have cast vinyl involved. The bottom layer will be sizing, followed by the level of gold you choose, like 22kt, 23kt or 23.5kt. Then, most fire companies want some kind of twirling action on it. It's called engine turn. After that, the edges are sealed with your black paint. Then, the whole creation is clearcoated for added protection. Do this last step as thinly as possible as real gold leaf will totally outlast any clear you can put on.

If you're talking about SignGold vinyl or some reasonable fact simile, that is not considered REAL by any professional, not by a long shot. That's a cop out for those who can't.

No I wasn't going to lay down gold leaf....real as in sign gold not metalized polyester or whatever it is. They want a drop shadow, was thinking a good cast underneath...

Just a vinyl job, so use your normal pricing structure and account for the added cost of the higher grade vinyl. Don't wanna add too much padding, just because you think you might make a mistake.

 Keep the truck bay nice and warm, take your time, do it right and move on.
