Sign of the Times Magazine subscription scam?

I've been annoyed twice in as many days by telephone marketers trying to get me to "renew" my subscription to Sign of The Times magazine. I have never had a subscription to this mag so it's kind of hard to renew it. There's no way I'm giving out CC info over the phone to these guys. Anyone else getting this?

We get a complimentary subscription that they just tried to "renew" for only $2.8something an issue...

Must be some of these mags are losing advertisers. I have gotten hit up by Signs of the Times as well as sign and digital graphics. I think I am going to go ahead with Signs and Digital Graphics but let the other one go...

Thanks,
Kurt

I got the call 2-days ago.

They wanted to know if the magazine was showing up on time.

Then they wanted to know if I wanted to renew.

I've never seen it before . . .

Yep, that's the pitch...."Is it arriving in good condition..." Um....no, it isn't, and no it won't be any time soon. They want $5 something up here. "Get bent" is the basic sentiment from me....although I have been polite so far....

This happened to me 2 years ago. They said I owed them for a years subscription that I hadn't subscribed to. A few weeks later I received a complimentary issue and then a bill for a years subscription. After much debating on the phone, it was cleared up. Crazy!

I'd write "Bite me" on the bill and return it.

I haven't received a magazine in years with the advent of the innerweb. The only sign mag I think is worth shelling out for is SignCraft and I don't even subscribe to that one.

December 09 issue looks good to me...

being unable to find value in something doesn't mean that thing sucks... it just means YOU can't seem to get anything out of it... who knows why that is... for all we know maybe you can't read... whatever the deal is... if there was one (which I doubt), I hate scams as much as the next guy...

...but in my opinion, ST media group is a positive influence in this industry & a handful of crybabies notwithstanding, I would expect that opinion to be shared by the majority.

ok, back to your regularly scheduled rant...

I got a call from them, I think it was them, either them or Sign Builder Illustrated. I haven't subscribed to either one for like four years. The previous owner had them. They call almost every year, and want to know if I want to renew it...I always tell them no, I always still get them the next year. There's a few of them, so no idea who was who cause I don't wanna be bugged when they call.

I got that call yesterday, "Did I get the magazine in good condition?"

No

"Would you like to "Renew" a Subscription?"

How can I renew what I never started?

"Derrrr"

Put me on your do not call list, good bye.

I don't like deceptive sales pitches from an industry publication.

I got the call too...but I used to subscribe so no suspicions on my part.
I dropped the subscription because the magazine contained less & less of interest to me. I had been a subscriber for most of 30 years. It had always had a emphasis on the "bigger" side of the business, but is the grandaddy of the business. They are a good influence on the business and their books are great. Their website leaves a lot to be desired.
I pay for Signcraft and get several others free.

The magazine may be the greatest publication ever but trying to trick me into subscribing to it is bad IMHO. If that makes me a crybaby then whaaaaaaa....

Inc & Fast Company started hounding me for a renewal before I had even received my first copy of a 1yr subscription. They paid more mailing me renewal notices than they did mailing me the magazine!
