Sit/stand stool...who uses one?

I'll be glued to the front of a sandblast cabinet for the next month or so, and even though I have a generously cushioned ergonomic floor mat, it's not going to cut it for the long hours of standing. I'll be sitting for 10-15 minute intervals with approximately three minutes standing time to load/unload the cabinet.

I'm in the market for a sit/stand stool like the one shown below. There are other variants, but I'm curious as to who here uses one, and what you do or do not like about them.

The one shown below does not swivel, but I'm thinking that the one I get should. I don't want to have to continuously pull it forward and push it backward.

I already have one of those. I was looking for something that would keep me in a semi-standing position, yet allow me to flex my knees and sit.

I've also seen those stools that look like they have a wide bicycle seat. Those look like they'd also work.

They have a lot of commercial stools.

I bought a tall design station stool years ago and it's great, It was expensive, like $300 or so and adjustable in every way possible. Arm rails and casters are optional on some. When your at the computer and go to the plotter or printer constantly it's much better than getting out of a chair.
Worth the $$ when your in it every day...

With the 'big' savings you made on production, hire someone in your place...... and go lay down on a couch you already have. :rolleyes:

Gine...the blades are still working well, thanks again. And the "big savings" gets plowed back into the business for future growth, so I can't (won't) hire anybody.

After some considerable thought, I've decided to try a different approach instead of sitting.

For the lack of a better name, I guess you could call it a "wobble board". I took a few scraps of stuff I found laying around and made an "interactive" foot rest. I can stand on it and rock my feet back and forth, thus allowing me to stretch calf muscles and flex my knees, all while standing in one position leaned against the blast cabinet. The fulcrum is off center which allows me to flip it around for more / less resistance.

I'll check back in later to indicate how well it worked.

After a bit of research, what I've called a wobble board (shown above) is really called a balance board. Wobble boards have a spherical contact point with the floor for 360 degrees of motion. A balance board has cylindrical contact with the floor permitting only back and forth or side to side motion, depending on the orientation of the pivot point.

Needless to say...I'm sticking with the balance board and scrapping the idea of a sit/stand stool.

I have 2 drafting type of chairs, swivel, foot rest, back, arms and 5 wheels that roll. Height adjusts but does not drop to desk top height. One is in front of my computer and one is in front of my blast cabinet.

The one in front of the blast cabinet has a wedge block so it can't roll out from under me when I'm moving back and forth between sitting and
standing. The swivel seat is really appreciated and I can fully sit on it or just put my butt on the edge.

This is the best I have come up with as I am consistently back and forth between sitting and standing. Found them on craigslist a couple of
years ago, paid $80 - for the pair. Fabric color leaves a bit to be desired, the arms show they have been well used, but what the heck. I assume these were not cheap drafting chairs originally as they are built real well.

As for your rocker stand ... I tried that. Legs still got tired.

i been going down in the muscle dept as i age. got a thing called inclusive body myocitis. big word for a muscle disease that has no cure or regeneration. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sitting apparti is a must nowadays. i got em from the mechanic roll around seat to kitchen bar stool height and a couple in between. i really like the swivel seats.....as it gives me more range of motion, but i have a couple that are solid to the legs. here in the office i use a taller "bar stool". in the shop i got a old roll around chair and the mechanic stool......got to pull myself up off that....std stools.......are good just for parkin it......with feet on the floor.

If you decide to go the way of a stool arrangement again, check out the back room of a post office where they sort the mail. They use very cool little stools that are designed with your purpose in mind. I found a couple at a scrap yard once and repaired them.

If you would, please share any info you have for keeping your cabinet window clean while blasting for long periods.
