Solid Wood Monument

Here's something we don't do very often... work with WOOD.

We recently finished constructing a new monument sign for a local church. We decided to build this one entirely out of solid cyprus with MDO faces and Aluminum letters.

The posts are solid 10" x 10" cyprus. The top is made of multiple layers of solid cyprus. This sign is HEAVY.

Here are some photos of the production and installation. We still need to add the brick base/planter and the white wash stain.

Unfortunately the layout on the face isn't nearly as nice as the structure that holds it all together! (Design by committee)

Awesome. Put together on site too.
Get a camera on a tripod and make video out of the next one.
Make a nice youtube commercial.

Nicely Done! :thumb: Gotta love those jobs using real wood...but not the cost. Those jobs don't come along everyday!
Can I ask what the Cypress alone ran? (roughly). That is a damn fine selection of wood for the project. Is that "select" Cypress?
Again... Very nice. Looking forward to pics of the final product with brick and white-wash.

Very nice cypress sign. Inner framework is as nicely done as the trim elements.

Wood is just about my favorite medium to work in. Don't get to do it much any more.

That is a nice job. We do something similar with the parks and recreation, but the cost is not something that customers like. Your work is quality.

Thanks for all the kind words guys (and gals)!

I referred to this sign as the Ark during construction. It truly was a massive project.

The cypress was a little more than 2k in raw material costs. It was all "furniture" grade cypress, I guess you could call that select. (I'm not too familiar with carpentry)

We took all the pieces to a cabinet shop where they ran it through their massive planer and joiner so everything is nice and square.

Let's hope that the shrubbery stays short. It would be a shame to have it grow and hide that beautiful sign. Really nice job from start to finish, one to be proud of, for sure!
