some advice please----

I purchased a laminator off signs101 here: http://www.signs101.com/pp-classifieds/for-sale/p1029-27laminator.html -- its listed in the "Merchant Members Classifieds" so I thought I would be ok lol. Anyhow long story short ---I ended up going and picking it up as Im in a residential area -- no rigs :0( All looked well, got it home unloaded and unpacked plugged it in and no power. I have checked all the saftey switches, fuses and made sure the plug was working (have done that before). I have been in touch with the seller several times -- each time he checks with a tech and gets back to me about the saftey switches etc. At this point it feels like its starting to go in a big circle. It was payed for with PayPal so I can file a dispute there. He wanted me to use a volt meter and check power to here and there -- I am way not qualified nor should I have to really.

So theres the story --- what would you do?

I personally can't imagine being without a volt/ohm meter and my opinion is that you should go and get one and deal with the very minor learning curve of using it. If you're concerned about getting shocked, then just unplug the machine and use the ohm meter to check continuity across all your fuses and safety switches. Otherwise, you are always going to be at the mercy of technician schedules and the high cost of onsite service.

That is indeed a GBC laminator. Did you check the fuse under where the cord attaches? Otherwise I'd suggect contacting the seller.

Thanks a ton for all the quick responses.

Fred -- I hear you on the volt meter and understand the importance of having one -- I do alot of rc modeling ;0) I dont want to be poking around to much inside of the machine I just bought to much that doesnt work :thumb:


Jhill -- it was crated and had been shipped from VA to NY. I opened the top to make sure there was no damage -- I did not plug it in at that time. I was at the shippers dock ;0) HINDSIGHT I guess

Another Sign Maniac -- It was purchased as working in excellant shape "with no issues"


SightLine -- Yes I was able to find a very similar model online (GBC).I checked the fuses below the cord in which there was 2-- both unbroken and good. I swapped them around anyhow. Checked, cleaned and reset the plastic guides saftey switchs. Tried entering media etc-- I get no lights no sounds no nothing

So you didn't verify that it worked prior to taking possession of it. Not smart.

Had you plugged it in when you picked it up, you may have had a claim, but since you didn't, there is no telling of when it "stopped" working.

sorry, i know this is serious but I just could not resist!!

What does the seller say about it...you said he is a merchant member here...I'm sure he wants a clean slate with you.

This is from the sellers ad "There are no issues with it and the rollers are very well maintained", Condition: Excellent, so you would think buying from the signs101 members that they won't lie as to what they sell.

I do not see an emergency stop on it, but if it has one, check that. Personal experience...sometimes it is too obvious.

At this point I almost feel married to this machine lol I have looked and checked so many parts, switchs etc :0) No offense on the jokes -- Im lighthearted for the most part :thumb: No saftey stop--I plugged a fan into the socket to make sure it was finctional(1st lol)

Between the listing here, the listing on graphixnetwork and them having several locations I was pretty confident in my puchase. The seller hasnt been rude or anything and Im not trying to bad mouth them here either. I'm simply undecided what action to take and thought I would ask here. He has gone over the normal fuse, saftey switch and other reasons in which it may not run, never stating it shouldnt or I'm stuck. I calle dthe office today and left a message -- no return call. He has called me from the show in Orlando tho yesterday, now its the weekend so I think I will file the PayPal dispute and see what come sof it.

Did you check if it had a banana in the tail pipe?

At worst I would send it back and offer to take care of shipping if it is user error. That sounds like something both parties could agree on.

Hmmmm looking at the picture that shows the power connector, it looks as though the finish around the screw just to the right of that is buggered a little. This to me indicates someone has been in the rear cover. This is where the rather small power/main board is located. Maybe something just came disconnected behind there. If you are feeling froggy the exploded views and full parts list for that model is here

thank you for the links SightLine -- he had me open it also and look to see if anything "looked out of the oridinary"

Theres no banana in the tailpipe -- lol it would have to run for that to be an issue :0) :Big Laugh
