SP-300V display shows SP-??? All kinds of issues.

First, let me explain what got me into this mess. The long carriage cable folded onto itself causing the machine to jam. This has happened a few times in the past without any major issues. This time it really caused some issues.

I decided to replace the cable and the plastic slide/guides along with the encoder strip. Now I am getting one error after another. Every time I try and fix one error a different one pops up. I do have a service manual so I'm not shooting in the dark.

Error after error, I just so happened to notice my display shows Roland SP-??? while I'm pretty sure it used to say SP-300V. So then I was wondering if that could possibly be causing a problem.

After replacing everything I have gotten the following errors:
105
0080
0010
0101

Also have seen "Unrecoverable Limit Sensor" on the display after doing the Limit Intialization. As stated above it seems anytime I try to track down one error a new one pops up. Scan motor appears to be functioning fine since it moves all the way across the machine.

Any input would be appreciated.

The ??? instead of 300V could appear when the limit initialization fails. I haven't seen it until now on a VersaCamm, but sometimes on Soljets. The other error messages indicates problems with the motor movement, 0080 for example an overcurrent at the scan motor.

Try by hand: could you really move the head carriage all over the width of the printer? On the right side to the locking position? Left side to the cut down position?

Sometimes it happens that because of mechanical reasons (e. g. a jammed carriage cable or media jam) the tool carriage will move on the wire it is fixed on. This could lead to that the carriage runs out of wire when it tries to do regular movement.

Remove the upper cover and check the screw which fixes the tool carriage on the wire and its surrounding. If the wire or the wire coating around the screw looks damaged than it could be that the tool carriage has moved. Loose the screw a little bit, move the head carriage to a position where it can move over the full area (preferably the old position which can be easily located because of the damages of the wire) and try limit initialization again. If the wire is only a little bit damaged you can continue using it.

Thanks...you are correct. I think since the encoder scale wasn't read yet it didn't know what size machine it was so it left it as ???. After that was done it started reading normal again.
