SP300 cut paths need to be complete?

Quick question, cut paths or lines on the Roland sp300, do they need to be "complete" or a closed shape? Or cai I simply cut a line, start and finish being two separate points/locations?

Yeah, just seeing if I can cut out lines or a "grid" inside of another shape. Thanks for the replies.
