SP300V -- BLUE banding ONLY.

Hey guys...

Been printing quite a while at this point and have tested several different medias with this. Manually/hand cleaned printer, test print shows perfect lines across all four colors...

For whatever reason, ANY Blue being printed is banding -- not terribly, but noticeable...but ONLY blue. If I print a picture that includes sky, all the blue is banded and nothing else. Same goes for any print that includes blue in it.

Any ideas why only blue would be banding, even with a perfect test print? I can not figure this out for the life of me and it's driving me crazy.

Can't really help with Roland specific issues, but maybe I can help narrow it down, for someone else to come in and answer.

When you say "banding", do you mean there are actual nozzles missing while printing (even though the test is good), or are there slightly different coloured bands through your blue areas? By this I mean bands of either a lighter blue, or a seemingly different diffusion pattern, across the printed blue areas, at regular intervals.

Take a look at this. By test print looks good I mean all nozzles are firing properly and no deflections... Like i said, faint banding, but ALWAYS in blue. Does this pic help at all?

While I'm sure it seems more severe in hand, that banding looks prrrrrretty tolerable from the picture. If it's not a media comp issue, you might want to adjust your x-height, if that's an option of the Roland, as the Cyan might just be lining up weird with the other colours laid down.

Looks like you're getting a tiny bit of deflection at the end of each pass too. Doubt it's related, but I'd take a look at that as well.

Which Roland Printer do you own?

on the left side of most Roland printers there is a white lever that you can manually lift or lower to adjust head height. If it is set to high you will have issues printing on vinyl. The high adjustment is meant for banners and thicker material.

Try that.

Blue is a pretty hard colour to hit on a lot of different printers. If the banding is unacceptable (looks decent from the pic though) try running the file in uni-directional. I have a feeling this may be a case of "the lawnmower effect".

'Fraid I couldn't. We only have Mimakis here. Thought I could add a little input since I've seen similar, colour-specific banding myself. I'm sure someone on here could help with head alignment.
