printer was having trouble finding vinyl length would hesitate as it went across and show length as 0.0 , replaced encoder strip and it worked fine after testing 3 or 4 times.
the next day it would not find vinyl length but no hesitation going across.
now i have found the the problem only happens when trying to get full length say 28.5 27.8 or there about.

when moving pinch rollers to say 16" 20" or anywhere close to that it picks up vinyl length every time.
could really use some help,
SP300V

It's not the encoder strip that is the problem.
It's likely the carriage cable.
This is a known problem for that machine,
Search around the threads on this forum and you find it.

++for the cable. Just replaced one and fixed it right up. Not a hard job if you have worked on these printers before, but takes a while to do. Pulling all the little plastic rivets that hold the cable down without messing them up is about the hardest part (they DO NOT include new ones with the cable). You will have the WHOLE machine apart, so if this is your first fix, not sure I would tackle it.

BTW, for now reach in and wiggle the cable before you sheet set, sometimes gets the old one to work...but you still need to replace it cause that will only work so many times.
