SP540 Sheet Set error

I have an sp540V, When you print a decals and then place it back in the machine or change rolls it has a hard time finding the egde of the page. It will move out to the fist roller and then go back to the right and give a sheet set error or even go all the way to the left roller and start back across and give an error. It ussually take 8-10 tries to get it to work right..
I have cleaned the encoder strip. Is this controlled by something else??

I had problems similar to this with my SP300V. I replaced the cut carriage cable and it fixed my problem.
