SP540V INTERMITTENT PAUSES - Please HELP!!!

I am printing banners today and the current banner felt a little gummy so I increased the heat. Now it is intermittently "pausing" in between sweeps. The printer does not actually pause, but it is almost like it stutters. I lowered the heat to where it was before and it is still doing it. If I actually pause the machine it will run normally for several sweeps and then go back to the stuttering. Has anybody run into this problem before? The print is a 20' banner and it is about half way complete.

on the odd occasion the data transfer cant keep up with the rate the printer is using it up. just depends on the image. the head just waits a little before each pass.
next job it will probably run fine.
