SP540V Linear Calibration

Got a weird problem. Prints are stair stepping so I cleaned the encode strip. Helped a little.

So I decided to go Service Mode and have it do the Linear Encoder test/setup. Keeps telling me to remove the sheet? There is no material loaded.

Wheels up or down doesn't make a difference. I have to be missing something simple.

It performs the Linear Calibration just fine.

There is a little sensor under the platen that reads if material is loaded. It will look like a hole in the platen towards the right of the machine looking from the front. Check to make sure it isn't covered in vinyl or something else that wouldn't allow light in.

Here's a pic of what it's doing with the crop marks. Lower right was before Linear Calibration, upper left is after. Couldn't get it to perform the encoder calibration.

Yup. Made sure it isn't covered. It looked clean, but as best I could I dusted it with a dry swab.
