SP540V Roland Carriages Are Disconnect

TAP Signs

Hello everyone. I am a TPT Signs official.

My machine, which had no problems, suddenly started to malfunction. It keeps giving "Carriages are Disconnect" error.

Had the same problem a few months ago. I bought a new "Linear Encoder" and the problem was gone. Now it gives the same error again. I put new "Linear Encoder" again. I also cleaned the encoder sensor. But the problem persists. This problem occurred after uploading new media. I installed Digital Vinyl and it started giving the "Carriages are Disconnect" error. What can I do?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Here you go... If the caps are lined up in Step 4, you can skip steps 5-11 and go to Step 12. Be sure to move the cut carriage all the way to the left before hitting Enter in Step 14, or you will get an error.

Hello everyone.

First of all, thank you for your answers. As I said before, I had the same problem a few months ago. I installed a new encoder linear and the problem was solved. A few days ago I installed new media (digital Vinyl) and now it gives this error again. I installed a new linear again. I also cleaned the encoder sensor with isopropyl alcohol. Still the same error.

These are the steps I have completed.
1) Limit initialization.
2) I cleaned the sensor and linear.
3) I did the encoder setup (failed).

Is it true that the only way to solve the problem is to buy a new encoder sensor. Do you know any other method?

Thanks.

Thank you for the answer. I completed all of these steps. I just can't get past the encoder setup part. It gives fail error.

It is possible that the bearings on the ink carriage are not free and lubricated, the cutting head pulls away from the ink carriage when it traverses.(Particularly on a fast travel).
Fix- Clean and lube the rail and carriages.

Just a possibility, as bit hard to fault find from 12000 miles away.

Thank you very much for your answer.

Yes, I am thinking of cleaning and lubricating the rails tomorrow. 3 in 1 with oil. If there is no room, I will have to order a new sensor. Do you have any other ideas?

Don't use 3 in 1 oil on the rail, The printers are designed to have the bearings greased, not the rail oiled. Oiling the rail can help temporarily, but isn't a proper fix Normally if the bearings are sticking you will get a scan motor error rather than the carriages disconnecting. I would replace the sensor first and see if that fixes it

True, but it might be worth cleaning that rail, since i have seen many people oil or grease them, leaving enough residue to pick up dust and increase the drag on the carriage

I had something similar..... until I found out that the linear bearings were almost out, I replace them and I am still running, had never change the encoder strip or something else, the only replaced parts are 1 time printhead and linear bearings, we got the machine on November 2005 and still printing.

Thank you for your answer.

I ordered a new sensor. I should have it tomorrow. I wanted to try it with the sensor.

How did you understand that it was a bearing problem?

We found over here with the SP machines that it was a common occurrence when the cut carriage cable was on it's way out One of the outer wires on the ribbon cable used to get a magenta type stain on the insulation around where the cable came out of the cabinet housing the mainboard etc and that seemed to typically be the warning sign. it'd move on to problems with left and right roller detection errors during the media width detection and end up with the carriages disconnecting constantly during printing. One chap had success with extending the life of the cut carriage cable by doing something with the encoder reader but the problem would always come back. My three SP-300V's mostly worked on a 250mm roll width so a lot more scan movement backwards and forewards so a lot more cable flexing cable flexing than would normally be the case and I'd have to replace the cut carriage cables pretty much around every 12 months.
