I have a i1 pro, yes gretagmacbeth model, that is due for it's checkup. I've been wondering, should I check into a later model or different brand? Even after the last recalibration, when I read provided color samples, what it reads and what the output is isn't close. We have 4 different print formats in house, latex, uv, aqueous, eco-solvent.

I would look at the EyeOne Pro2 for your board stuff.
Maybe a better strip reader for your roll to roll materials.

Check out Barbieri. Saw some pretty awesome stuff from them at SGIA last year.

upgrade to the i1pro2. More than enough for the conventional printer.

The barbieri stuff is more specialised, and a whole lot more expensive.
The spectropad is designed to be used on flatbed printers, or printers with flat surfaces. having wifi, you can do measurements all over the shop with multiple machines.
The LFP is probably the most versatile spectrophotometer, measuring a4 size sheets of anything. with reflective and transmission mode.
The Swing is similar to the xrite i1isis except the i1isis cannot read in transmission while the swing can.

But i believe the sensors on the barbieri devices are much better. the i1pro2 couldn't read through transparent media like glass and acrylic, but the spectropad and LFP can.

We just upgraded from an old DTP41 sheet fed unit to an i1pro2 and it's great for both board and sheet stock.
Fast and accurate, plenty for the average sign shop.

Danno, I just upgraded from the gretagmacbeth i1 to the pro 2 and am very happy that I did. It's familiar and much faster. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Before you upgrade be sure to check your software for the devices they support. Some rips have a limited number of spectros that they interface with.
