ouchies.

They gave you the ticket because you are the source -- its like not arresting drug dealers to get to the cartel...

How much is the permit? I you purchase the permit, and then go to the optional court date they'll probably drop the fine.

Wow. We don't have to have crap for a banner...and most signs that we install. We are in a small town that didn't use to enforce anything. They are starting to crack down because someone printed like 1,000 "We support our firefighters" signs, and they are just at every single house in this town, and I'm pretty sure it's waking people up to how much "noise" there is from temporary signage around here.

Sucks about your ticket though. You could have had a lot more fun with $400.

Don't they give warnings first? I would go in an speak to someone in city hall. Talk to your mayor.

Here is what our "OLD" sign information

It stated that "No permit is required, However, only one(1) banner may be displayed for no more than seven(7) consecutive days in a 30 day period and is smaller than 40 square feet and be mounted securely and flush against a building wall."

I put a different banner out once a month for 5 days (monday-friday) and wait until the next 30 days to put another one. But today he told me it was the "OLD" city code.

Usually each month when I put the banner out they tell me I have up to 72 hours to take it down. I usually take it down before 24 hours and wait until the next month to put it up again. The dude said that he already gave me 2 warning, one in october and one in november so this time he's giving us a ticket. we called the city and they said he should'nt have to tell us the second time.

oh yea, about that too. I had an old chevy truck that I wrap only one side after hurricane ike (because we had no electricity and I had nothing to do) that I park in front with the side that is wrap facing the freeway, they wrote me a citation for using a truck as a sign because the tag was expire.

Damn, you've obviously pissed off some inspector at some point. In a city the size of Houston you'd think they had too much to do to stay on you like that.

no, it's my fault for not keeping up with the rules and regulation that changed in 2009 and will change again in 2010.

Yes, this whole thing really bites the big one, but based on many of your posts here... you seem to have quite a grasp on the rules and laws of your area and this didn't just happen to an innocent person.

First of all, you're a sign shop and need to know the laws regardless of how often or whenever they change. Ignorance of the law is no excuse for disobeying it when you obviously have a handle on it and play your games with the codes people. Manipulating the codes to get them up and down just in the nick of time is bound to piss someone off.... and it looks quite evident... you did just that.

Maybe they figure if you can disregard the rules... others will start doing it and they are just too short staffed to go around policing everyone constantly for playing games. Having to scold people for doing what they shouldn't do wears anyone ragged.... ask any parent how many times they tell their kid not to do something and just throw their hands up in the air and then ground them or spank them for not listening........Sound Familiar ??

Your neighbors might've gotten a variance or are on better terms with the codes guy. Maybe you should buy the codes guy a case of 'Scotch ' for Christmas and see if bribbing an officer will work....... :toasting:

Gotta' pay to play, and rule number one is never, ever under any circumstances piss off the zoning enforcement officer. They can be your best friend or your worst nightmare.
