Stenciling with Enamel paint

fine point

Hi guys.

Have you done stenciling with enamel paint like One Shot? I have been trying to make a hand painted sign with paint-mask vinyl stencil but no avail.

Paint gets peeled when I remove paint-mask. Does anyone have a similar experience? I have a feeling the paint might have not been dried completely but I could be wrong.

Thanks!

Remove the mask when the paint is tacky. Use a quill and letter inside the stencil without getting too much on the stencil. Gerber stencil has always worked well for me.

Jill maybe it is Oramask by Oracal I use. I know it's blue. I cut mask for an airbrush guy that custom paints motorcycles.
I personally don't paint with a mask.....I use paint.

I hate stencilling and would far rather paint with a pounce pattern.
But I do use a stencil from time to time with Ronan lettering enamel.
(I no longer use 1 Shot)
I do not like the Gerber mask at all! It is too stiff to work with comfortably (for me) and when it gets under your fingernails it's agony.
I prefer the Oramask by Oracal.
It's nice with enamels as well as "hot" paints like automotive urethanes.
Avery mask can (and does) melt with those.
You do need to remove the mask when the paint is tacky or you are asking for trouble.
It makes a mess (another reason I hate masking) you can drop stuff accidentally into wet paint or get splatters on your background if you peel it up too fast.
Be neat and work carefully, don't slop your paint on.
I use a snap-off X-Acto knife to peel off the mask.
Sometimes the masking can ghost your background but that ghost comes off with a bit of Rapid Prep and some elbow grease.
Love....Jill

Thanks guys!

So I was doing complete opposite by letting it dry. I would rather hand paint it, but there are many geometrical designs and I couldn't free-hand it.

Thanks for the tips for Rowan paint. I only used 1 shot and I have never tried different brand. I will try them in future!

Thanks guys and have a great weekend!

Not sure if this is the right place for this. But I have a job where the customer is requested me to screen print white letters on a porcelain surface. I have never screen printed so I thought I could use a mask with an enamel paint. is this a good idea, or does anyone have a better idea?
