SteveC schooled me on my new Ovation

I just stopped into SteveC's shop with my new Ovation 40th anniv Balladeer acoustic guitar. He asked me to bring it by sometime so he could see it. Among his many other talents, he is a very good guitar picker. He was obviously rusty, but even at that he blew me away. Isn't it amazing how many sign folk are musicians as well? If you are ever going to visit Steve, you'll do well to have a guitar with ya.

So nice to play a GOOD guitar. Beautiful feel and extraordinary sound. But it
was real nice to see you Dave. I forgot to say so, but you are looking well.
semi-retirement agrees with you.

And, yes, I am a slacker. Sorry so long on the new fonts but I have taken a
brief hiatus over the Holidays that I much enjoyed. You'll be hearing from me.

It's always cool to hear someone else play your own guitar, especially if the rock.

Found a crack in the top of Martin this week.
Not too happy:frustrated:
Guess, I'll buy a humidifier, although a little late

Agreed. I'm into all types of music. My cousin showed Montes clip to me and I just thought he tore it up. He has obviously been beatin that thang a looooong time. Maybe this guy has enough air between for you.

Just watched the clip and I gotta say.
Too many notes makes it sound sloppy and technical.
Not that the guys not good, but I didn't feel it.

For me it's the space between the notes that gives goosebumps.

Anyone seen the movie "Amadeus"? "Too many notes". Ha. When I see and
hear good playing it makes me want to practice harder!

For pure raw musical talent check out this video

It's amazing how rhythm and time signatures can be ignored and pure raw ability comes to the fore! Just think how amateurish they must have sounded when they first started practicing!!

wow. i think that was my neighbours band doing Cocaine. they suck!

here's my new favourite guitar player right now. Yeah - it's pretty tongue in cheek but the whole band just absolutely rips. http://www.steelpantherrocks.com I've seen them twice in Vegas and not only do they rock but the banter between songs had me in tears.

Another highly underrated rock guitarist is Rontrose from the Super Suckers. http://www.supersuckers.com/ He's not in the band anymore but he's on every album to date. Check out the album "Evil Powers of Rock N Roll" if feel like smashing stuff.

Also check out Brian Setzer's album called Ignition. Wicked picking in that one.

If JJ Cale were dead, he would have rolled over in his grave with that version.

If picking's your thang. I've posted John Butler here before, but this one is pretty good.

I seem to be getting lots of compliments on how I look these days. I'm most amazed at the abundance of motivation I have to face days where I have absolutely nothing to do... days where I just follow any whim I feel. I long ago got past the boredom when I decided to accomplish something completely new in my life. My days are now filled with the pursuit of learning to play a guitar fingerstyle. I haven't used a pick in months. When i was still employed, I could barely eek out 15 minutes in a day to try and learn fingerstyle. I was always obsessing over something I felt had to be done related to sign work. My brain was geared to sign production to the exclusion of any other pursuits. It's no wonder I went from one burn out to another. Having what is considered to be Ovation's best wood top guitar keeps the pursuit going - it's more motivating when you are utilizing the best object for your efforts. BTW Steve, I'm not "semi-retired", I'm the full deal. While it is based on a full disability, I won't have a re-evaluation for 7 years - at which time I will be 65 and it will convert to retirement. I will admit it feels great to have the grind behind me already and to be waking up to days I have no apprehensions about. About the only thing that could top how I feel now would be to win the lottery!
