Summa blades, bits and consumables

Hi All,

Excited to be a part of such a large and experienced group in the same industry!

I have worked for Summa (large format cutter manufacturer) for the last 22 years but have moved on after their current move from Beverly, MA to Indianapolis, IN.

With their blessing I have started a small consumables division selling exclusively Summa branded consumable parts (blades, bits, holders, etc..) from my new website: www.procuttersupplies.com

It is an “Amazon” style website so Summa users can order their needed consumable parts directly online without needing to issue a PO and wait. All orders ship day after order is placed.

Happy to help with Summa questions for the community as well!

Excited to be here,

Dave Stantial

I thought PHILJOHNSON did that. Oh well, I am cheap and live next to Texas, so I mostly use Digiprint to get it next day. Clean Cut blades are also my go-to, even if they weren't cheaper. I use a tangential cutter, and the factory ones seem to be more failure prone and have a mediocre grind on them.

That said, I am always happy to send folks to alternate suppliers if they need. Especially if they're located in our neck of the woods.

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks! Yes, Phil does that with Airmark as well. I’m just another option but I do have a ton of experience to help with any issues or questions.

Appreciate the welcome!

You're supposed to be a merchant member if you want to advertise merchant services.

Its not fair to him, or other suppliers that they pay for the ability to do so..and others skirt the rules.

Here... May as well open the doors for everyone!

Sumas prices are way, way overpriced. I buy direct from aliexpress... I can personally vouch for the 500-9802 blades as we've been using tons of those to cut hundreds of rolls of magnetics up, and they last just as long as summas... summa is $150 a blade (CAD) And to buy from china is $3 per blade.

The Tangential blades are also great - We dont kiss cut as often, but I do have a knockoff in my cutter and I've cut maybe a roll of vinyl with it, and havent had to change yet....

The double edge blade is also great...havent used any of the others... but free shipping, took about a week or two to arrive... and a 10 pack of each is cheap to try it out.

Aliexpress is the Ebay of China - Safe to order from, and they protect the consumer much more than they protect the seller... so its virtually risk free.

Can you take some photos with microscope? Would be interesting to see the finishing quality.

Sorry about that, I wasn't aware. I just joined the community a couple days ago. My account is now upgraded to a Merchant member.

It's great if you have found a supplier at a more inexpensive price, my only concern would be that the knife specifications aren't exact and cause extra wear and tear on blade holders and modules.

Appreciate the feedback!

Thanks for contributing, and as stated before, welcome. =)

There's 2 types of people that people like me get burned out on, those who come in and screech like a banshee and revive dead threads and start new ones in hopes we'll hand hold them through fixing a machine they have no business working on, And those who have no reason to be here other than to just post an ad and leave.

This place is great, tons of experience and feedback, and most folks are pretty helpful, friendly, or, sometimes just entertaining.

Yep, I'll try to get some this weekend.

I have an original heavy duty blade then I will try to get some of as well for comparison.

All of the other OEM blades are used, so it wouldn't be fair to compare to those.

I will say I've cut a few rolls of vinyl with the tangential blade, and the only time I've ever changed the heavy duty blade was when the material lifted and it caused the blade to chip... Been through about 15 plus rolls of magnetic, and at least a dozen sheets of 4x8 coroplast, and we haven't noticed the quality of the cuts getting worse...

I was very weary going into it thinking there's no way it would work considering the price difference... But we purchase the machine cuz we're doing 150 rolls of magnetic every 2 months, I figured we would be going through blades like crazy... And worst case it didn't work and which case we would just buy the blades from our local vendor. Best case it would work, but the blades would go faster... And at 1/20 of the price it would have to go over 20 times faster to not be worth it...

Surprisingly, they ended up being way better than we even considered. And I'm loving the Suma, we can print or write sheets on the flatbed, zerobleed in color right to the edge and it will cut it dead on and you won't even see a hair of white.

I am selling my graphtec and getting a S3, been a huge graphtech supporter... But if the S3 is as accurate as the f series I feel like there's no comparison in accuracy. All this, while using the cheap Chinese blades.... So if there is a difference, it's not one that I can see

The Tangential blade is the chinese one only, I dont have a non used summa one.

For the 2 heavy duty blades... The image on the top with a slightly discolored look is the chinese blade - Bottom silverish one is the OG Summa.

Funny enough the chinese one has a sharper point.... Now you cant notice a difference when looking at it without the microscope, so its probably microscopic sharper...And that could be because the summa blade was taken out of the foam and put back in a few times as the tech was comparing the blades...so he could have damaged it.

Chinese blade seems a bit more smooth / less damaged - but again... Microscopic changes, and maybe thats because it's a softer material / will dull quicker.

Hard to get a photo of the other sides as I dont have a stand for this microscope, I just use it for laser aligning and for printhead alignment
