Summa Cutting Question

Graphic Extremes

Knows To Little
I have looked through all the setting in Onyx I can find. I am looking to see if it is possible to have a Summa S2 Tangential cut all the kiss cuts first and then go and cut all the perforation cuts second.. This may not be possible to do.

Any help is appreciated.

The below PDF guide from Onyx should help. You need to assign different spot colors in your job, one for the thru cut and one for the kiss cut. Then in Onyx Cut Server make sure that the layer that has the Kiss Cut is listed at the top of the Layers section. This should tell the cutter to run the kiss cut first, then the thru cut.

I have it set up that way. It reads the registration marks, then does the kiss-cut. then goes and does the thru-cut on those registration marks. then moves onto the next registration marks and so on.

I would like it to cut all the kiss-cuts on the sheet first and then do all the thru-cuts. This I can not figure out.

Think I understand what balstestrat is saying. Turn off the eye in Gosign for the thru-cut and cut the file, then turn off the eye for kiss-cut and turn on the eye for thru-cut and read the marks again..... that doesn't work well for bar codes automation...
I am missing something here.....

That sounds like a bug in Onyx, the cutter will definitely cut the job that way if the cut file is created by the rip correctly. Are you setting up the number of copies in the artwork or are you telling Onyx to print x number of copies?

I have the copies set up in the artwork, layers for the kiss and thru cuts, and so on.. Sheet size is 52 inches by 6 feet long. registration marks are every 12 inches. it kiss cuts and then thru cuts between each set of registration marks.

Just need it to kiss cut whole sheet first and then go and thru cut the whole sheet. I can not get it to cut that way. Was hoping I was missing a setting somewhere.

Ok, if I am understanding you correctly, the cutter is treating the job like segments and kiss cutting segment 1 and then thru cutting segment 1 before moving on to segment 2 where it repeats that pattern? If that is what it is doing then there is a setting on the cutter called OPOS Paneling. It can be set to Off, 2 Points or 4 Points. If you want it to ignore the segments and cut the entire sheet, set OPOS Paneling to Off. Then the cutter should kiss cut the entire job, back up and thru cut the entire job.

Just an update so if anyone searches for this problem they will know the fix for it..

Summa called me directly and through a face time call saw what was going on. They remoted into my computer and looked at all the settings and said everything looked correct to them.. We looked in Illustrator and the layers and all the setting I had done in the file.. Everything was correct that they looked at.. Went through every setting on the machine and verified I was on the latest firmware.. Everything was correct..

Now for the fix.. Months ago I updated the firmware and had no issues until now. Don't know why it never acted up before...

The firmware update was corrupted somehow. Reinstalled the latest firmware and now everything is working perfectly again...

I give a big shout out to Summa for calling me and spending almost three hours on the phone working this out with me.. Tech said they have seen machines where for some reason the firmware upgrade does not go as planned and problems don't show up for months or even longer..
