SVG file extension

[gabagoo]

I looked it up online and it stands for scalable vector graphic...that sounds perfect for me, but I don't think my software recognizes the extension.
So the question is can it be opened and scaled in signlab / flexi or illustrator, or is one of those files that only opens in it's own software?

It will open in Illustrator.

i open in inkscape-save as eps-import into flexi.
