Tax question on purchased items?

hmmmmm, call fellers and ask them why you are being charged too much.

probably would have been taken care of by now, instead of all this conjecture....

This forum and many others would be kind of useless if questions like this were not asked here.....

His question was on non resale able items:

And a non-resaleable item would be what? He mentioned vinyl. Are you telling me that you pay sales tax on vinyl? You shouldn't, if my understanding is correct.

In state or out of state, if you are buying supplies to make signs with, you shouldn't be paying sales tax, unless your state requires it.

Machine oil for the upkeep of my embroidery heads.

Adhesive spray is another supply that I would keep a supply of.

Needles is another item that I would get, but not intend to resale.

Granted this are specific to what I do, but I'm sure that there are consumables in your industry that you don't intend to resale and they aren't used in the end product like say vinyl or ink or embroidery thread. Like print heads, especially with I believe the new HP printers that have replaceable heads as an upkeep item.

Stuff like that I would see as a supply item, but not necessary along the same lines as vinyl, ink, thread, substrate etc.

And that was what this discussion was endeavoring to find out. That and why so much was paid out as well. All of which is state by state. Thankfully, there aren't different tax rates in this state like their evidently is in PA.

It's my understanding where the sale takes place is what determines what/which sales tax is used and for Fellers, that would be Kansas, where the sales tax would begin. However, going across state lines, nixes most everything out.

My question would be, what kind of items are you buying from a supply house which requires you to pay tax in the first place.

Anyway, do you, yourself have a tax exemption number and if so, why aren't you using it ??

If you do... and you're paying taxes on various things and then charge your customers sales tax, that's considered double taxation which is illegal in all 50 states regardless of what anyone thinks.
