Terminology ?

So, we get the drawings from the General Contractor and are all good until we come to the following

POLYCARBONATE PANEL TO EMULATE "LIGHTBLOCKS" COTTON WITH EDGE AND CORNERS FILED SMOOTH
PANEL ADHERED PERMANENTLY TO 1/2" WHITE PVC BACKER TO PROVIDE DEPTH FOR THREADING RODS FOR MOUNTING
ARTWORK TO BE DIGITAL PRINTED ON LOW-TAC TRANSPARENT FILM ADHERED TO FRONT FACE OF PANEL

obviously we know what polycarb, PVC and printed transparent media is.

however, no one know what the combination is supposed to be achieving, or where they are getting these terms from,"LIGHTBLOCKS" COTTON? seriously what is this? and why use a low tac film on the outer surface of the panel

your guess is as good as mine, and if they are wanting to emulate "lightblocks" then why the 12mm thick PVC backing, that will not let any light through it...........

This is the point at which you establish a dialog and relationship with the architect/designer. A personal understanding of terminologies and expectations eliminates later issues and can establish you as a "Preferred Vendor".

Architects and interior designers can be the worst to deal with. Sometimes a conversation is needed to inform them that the material with not allow he process they are asking for.
I kid you not. I had an interior designer call for "clear aluminum halo lit push thru". WTF? LOL

What, ya'll don't know about that clear aluminum?

Maybe they were thinking of ALON. Or they've watched too much Star Trek.

Lightblocks panels

Lightblocks® products are relatively new. I had never heard of them before I looked at their website. The trademark registration on the name is dated 2014. They seem to be very much a custom manufacturing operation. They are in New Hampshire.

I distilled some info from their website.
The material was developed and patented by a sculptor named Mary Wellington, who created it for public sculptures. It seems to lend itself to some dramatic lighting and color effects for walls and countertops, as well as sign work. It's produced in acrylic, polycarbonate and polyester versions that may be translucent or opaque. It comes in a variety of thicknesses in both single and double-face versions. It can be formed, machined, routered, engraved, glued and printed, and it accepts vinyl graphics. It seems to be durable; they even make it into table tops. It can be made in many colors.
I would like to see some samples.
