The Golden Tamale - Suggestions?

I always appreciate the feedback I get here. Sometimes we stare at these so long we lose our perspective. Time to step back and get some outside opinions.

This is for a wholesaler of Tamales. There will be another version in Spanish: El Tamal de Oro.

Any suggestions?

As a logo, what is the definitive perimeter?, or do they plan to always have it printed with black around it? I think the concept is great. It might be a little heavy on the gold/casino aspect.

Yeah, they requested a shiney gold look to it.

Here's a version on a light background and one without the circle (poker chip :) )

that stack of tamales just doesn't work. why is it there? a picture of the product doesn't go in the logo. does GMC have a picture of a truck in the middle? think corporate food company!

This isn't a corporate company. It's a small town mom-pop business. I'm not in the business of corporate logos. :)

The customer requested the stack of tamales, like a pyramid.

I disagree 100%. The vast majority of logos are...small business. Not corporate. And even with that said, visual aids ALWAYS help if they can be read and understood quickly. Like... Apple has an apple? Thor has a symbol of Thor? Burger King has a stylized bun? WWF has a panda bear? NBA has a basketball player?

Neato---- I'd suggest keeping black around it like a poker chip. I think it'd always stand out great like that!!! Bravo

What if the tamale stack is moved to the top and behind the text? The name becomes more dominant.

Hmm, I liked the original - and also rjpjr's - when I envision it on the side of a box truck delivering golden tamale's it looks good to me. Haven't had any good tamale's in a long time either, sounds good.

You really do make me sick Neato! If I could design half as good as you then I would be very happy. The original is just great! Ask Dan Antonelli and see what he thinks.
