Now through the end of 2011 the ValueJet 1608HS Hybrid printer is only $39,995, that is a savings of $10,900!!!!. The take-up is an additional $2,100 for those that need it.

The 1608HS can print on both roll and rigid media up to 3/8" thick. Onyx Rip Center Mutoh Edition is included for those without a rip. The Mutoh SpectroVue VM-10 spectrophotometer is included as well as a 2 month trial of Onyx Production House giving you the ability to make your own custom profiles. The ValueJet 1608HS uses Mutoh's MP21 ink set that is made up of 60% Bio materials and contains now heavy metals. The ink is dried to the substrate using two heated air knives so there is no need to have expensive UV or LED lamps.

The printer is currently in Graphic Resource Systems Demo room and demo and print samples can be arranged. Contact GRS for more details at 888-477-8465 or by email at sales@thegrs.com.

The main difference is in the ink sets between the 1608HS and the 1624. The 1624 is using Mutoh's Eco-Ultra inks while the 1608HS is using the Mutoh's MP21 inks. The MP21 inks will not print as high of a speed as the Eco-Ultra inks will on roll media. Also the MP21 inks are rated at 2 years outdoors vs. the 3 years of the Eco-Utlra. If you shop does a majority of printing on rigid material the 1608HS is a better fit than the 1624 but if your shop does manly banner work, car wraps, etc. and very little rigid boards than the 1624 would be the better printer.

does the head automatically adjust to the substrate or is it a manual adjustment to it?

Yes to both actually. By default the 1608HS will do an automatic head height detection when the boards are first put into the printer. If a customer finds themselves printing on the same type of board with the same thickness you can manually tell the printer the thickness of the board and the printer will use that setting. If you do tell the printer the thickness the printer will warn you every time you load media and you will have to manually override this message before the printer will detect the location of the board.

I just wanted to clarify that the height of the print carriage is changed automatically by the printer.

how much does the onyx actually go for after the trial is expired??

The printer actually comes with a full version of Onyx Rip Center Mutoh Edition that does not expire. The trial version of Onyx Production House that also comes with the printer is to allow you to profile your media, you don't have to purchase Production House unless you want to continue to use it. The profiles that you make in Production House are compatible with Rip Center Mutoh Edition.

i'd do a lot of research before buying new. i've seen these printers selling one year old for very low figures. and auction closed at $13k, one on digitalprintmarket.com at $9k for many weeks. a demo was on ebay for $25k for months with "0" bidders.

I have just looked and the one on digitalprintmarket.com is not the ValueJet 1608HS, it is the original ValueJet 1608A. The 1608HS is the replacement for the 1608A and is a much improved unit. The 1608HS has a newer print head for better image quality, now has integrated air knife controls and also has the new MP21 ink instead of the original Mubio inks.
