Here is a factoid regarding 3D printing. They are dead slow. While in college I worked on a prototype of a football helmet. It was roughly 1/2 scale. In MSOE's SLA it took 24 hours to "print" the helmet and another 12 hours for the face mask portion.
I'm not denying how capable they are or the possibilities they open up. They just "make" things too slowly for many environments.
Last thing I learned about them is IF you buy one, by the time you get it set up and make a part it is already obsolete. Technology is pushing 3D technology at breakneck pace. If you need something done design it and job it out. Oh yeah you have to know how to run a program like Solidworks to generate the models.
