Thickness of Sintra

Hi,

I'm doing my first mounted sign using Sintra for the substrate. It's about 5 feet by 2.5 feet and will be bolted flat to a brick wall. My question is, will the 3 mil Sintra be sufficient for this or do I need to get the 6 mil? Looking at my supplier's inventory, it appears that they sell a lot more of the 3 mil and of course I'd rather use that if possible because it's half the price.

Thanks!

I wouldn't use 3mm outdoors unless it is a temp sign. not sure if others will agree or not, but I've seen it crack and break.

Your not going to want to hear this, but I cringe when I use 12 mm outside. I prefer using at least 19 mm.

But based on the fact that it's going flat on a brick wall, I would consider using 9 mm. 6 mm just seems a little thin...

As far as cost, sale your customer on using a thicker, better material, and pass the costs on. It's better to use a better material, and be more expensive, than using cheap materials, and have to redo the job later on. You only get one chance to build a good reputation, so why blow it with substandard materials?

Use Omega-Bond. Same as Di-Bond and about 30% cheaper. Once you get into 6mm Sintra the price difference is negligible.

Thanks for all the responses. After reading, I definitely won't be using Sintra.

I like this forum already. Thanks again!
