If you have 1' of vinyl left and you need to cut something 10" you WILL screw it up, no doubt.

I can wrap a boxtruck with no problems but will screw up some door lettering 4 times.

Only when out of town will your batteries for the drill die, you wont have the right screws or fasteners and have to resor to the local harware store and pay out of the a**!.

When you severly underbid and have no room for screw ups you will!

When foreigners call for sign quotes I shove them off to another company and maybe its me I just can't please them for some reason.

Exacto knives always go point first into the floor.

Customers NEVER clean their vans or trucks

You can send 30 emails back and forth on sign design but they NEVER get that email with the invoice attached

The owner of a business has no check writing authority

Accounts payable are never at their desk

If an employee screws up ordering signage they will throw you under the bus before admitting they did wrong

Favorite customer comments after installation:

I didnt know it was gonna be THAT RED!

I don't think thats the size we talked about

Does that look like the layout we sent over?

It was 2 days late do we get a discount?

This is actually true! Did a layout for a customer in the mall (indian) We started out quoting LED halo lit channel letters individually mounted. Price was WAAAAYYYY too much. Well we finally ended up with flat 1/8" pvc with vinyl copy. When we put sign up he brought me the layout of the led letters and said "No no no this is what you say you gonna do". So I asked what price he thought those were and replied with the price of the 1/8" panel....sometimes I dont know whether to stop doing signs and getting a job at home depot or just freakin cry

It takes me about 8 hours to graphic our local police cars. It takes the city two weeks to write a check.

If you mis-spelled a word on a sign, it's 60 miles away.

Customer love a color you only have a small roll of.

You always screw up a "donation" at least three times

As expected, post a design on Signs 101, and get 3 - 5 smart azz responses.

Vinyl has gone up 23% in the last year.

Most customers ask "Is that your best price"?

Just when you need it the most, your computer takes the blue screen of death. (Just happened last night. Now I'm working on a E-Machine back up with Vista) The Humanity, the Humanity!

In my sign Studio I only offer the signs that pay the most and the ones I love building.
When I started out I would do about anything to make the customer Happy then find myself in this de-lima above.

Now I only do 3D and I give them my design. I don't tweek the design to help the client get a price they want to pay.

If I get 6 people in my shop wanting signs I may only get one to bye one of my signs. But I get paid better then if I did work for all 6 people.

When they tell me what else they could get cheeper I tell them to go get a sticker mounted to a board, Its cheep fast and will not make your store stand out of the crowed of sticker signs. But hey its Cheep. :)

I just wanted to vent today. I offered to do a freebie cost of materials only for a local community thing. They wanted a banner for the town center. The job was completed quickly and I called them to let them know. They asked the cost of materials and I told them. They emailed me back and said not to do anymore work because they could get it much cheaper. I called three sign shops and asked the cost on an identical banner......cost was double of course. I JUST DON'T GET IT. I try to do good, but evil always rears its head.

i stopped at the indian part.... i don't even bother saying good bye when a customer calls and the voice is either indian or asian.... i just hang up....

sure it's probably a horrible thing to do, but in the end it's just better....
