During WWII Patton had an entire tank command made of balsa wood and painted canvas looking like tanks in England to fool the Germans on the invasion.
Several years later during the gulf war after Iraq invaded Kuwait the US did an identical thing by using inflatable tanks and real generators to simulate strength while they were shipping the real deal over to Saudi.
