Do you know this typeface or something close? ... the letters are from an old train photograph so it may be a painted original.

I have a client that uses Railroad Roman Font for their train museum. It's not exactly like your photo, but it shares some of the characteristics. I'm sure you could tweak it if you really want to make it look like the photo's font. Anywho, it was made to replicate the text on old trains!
