so i am sick of windows live mail for various reasons, but the inability to put links in a signature line bugs the crap out of me

so i downloaded thunderbird and cannot find an easy way to import all the contacts and stored emails

when it imports the contacts, it is all screwed up and i have to edit each one individually, stuuuuupid.

and haven;t found a way to import emails yet

anyone have any tips or tricks on switching, if it isn't easy to change then i don;t have the patience to change it

I'm of no help for you, but I used to use Thunderbird and switched to Windows Live mail about a year ago because of glitches I didn't like on Thunderbird. I can't believe that someone doesn't make a email client that actually works.

i would possibly stick with windows live, because it is comfortable

however, in my signature line, i want to put in the little facebook, twitter, linked in, etc icons with the links being active if they click them, but haven't found a way to do this yet and i think that is dumb

I use Thunderbird myself, but I am a longtime fan of Outlook. I just changed for the sake of change. The free email clients are lacking, creating a reason for you to purchase a full-feature client, imagine that. That being said, I am enjoying Thunderbird's add-ons.

As far as importing everything, I used a gmail account to transfer everything I believe. It was a bit more drawn out, but it worked. Basically, I synced Outlook to a gmail account, then synced Thunderbird to the same gmail account. After everything was moved over, I got rid of the gmail account.

I've been using Thunderbird (heavy use) for about three years now and have not yet encountered any glitches. I used to use Pegasus, which is an excellent client, but had its share of glitches that nobody in the support forums could help with.

The add-ons available for Thunderbird are quite extensive, as well.

I recall switching a few people from Outlook Express to Thunderbird and even then the transition is not perfect -- thanks to Micro$oft and their tireless efforts to not stick to their own standards.

i did google it:covereyes: nothing worth a crap for me to understand how to get it done

you would think this day and age, that it would be click click done, not, go here read this, but then click here and read this, now do this, but if you did this then go here first and do that, then go back to where you read this and click that and make sure that this says that otherwise this will do that and not this instead of doing that and almost done, but check here first......:toasting:

Have you looked at www.WiseStamp.com? I use it with Gmail and love it.....Not sure how or if it works with other programs...I have over 25 signatures and pick the one that is appropriate....I also use it for boiler plate letters....

Exactly the same for me... used Pegasus since the early 90's, then moved to Thunderbird maybe 5 years ago or so. It's not perfect, but it's the best I've found.

The thing I didn't like about it was there would be upgrades for it and then my extension wouldn't work without finding new ones, just seemed like a pain. One extension I really liked never was updated to work so I gave up on it.

As far as links in windows live mail, you can add a web address or email and it will show it as a link but as far as adding facebook or twitter icons and linking them, I don't think you can do that.

i have tried everything to add the icons in windows live mail, windows live mail and hotmail are not the same thing as far as i know

there is a member here on 101 that has the little icons in his signature line and thought it would be cool to add that to my email signature, i have followed all the directions and it just don't work like they claim it will

something so simple yet so hard to do, in thunderbird i believe i can do it, just won't commit to that program unless i can easily get all m stuff into it and that ain't looking too easy either
