I've got more and more demand for window tinting and safety films. How hard is it to install? I'm not planing of doing cars, just strait commercial glass.

  • Am I better to sub it out?
  • If I want to do it myself, who are de distributor in the Montreal area?

Thanks.

Here is what I know: Commercial tinting is much more lucrative than vehicles. There are specialty slitters you set up on the job to make your panels. You can pull out the inside gasket on IG panels and the window will stay in place. This allows you to tuck the film and have a flawless edge. When using dark tint there are solar gain calculations that must be followed so you don't shatter the panels.

We've done a few foe regular clients.
It was fairly simple, but they were also not real fussy.
We just told the supplier what we were doing and they told us what film to use.

Being a 3m dealer of solar and security solutions in AB I would suggest to sub it out. Without the correct tools/knowledge on installing it will either A) look like crap when installed B) cost you a few sheets to get one up that is passable C) not crack the windows due to thermal breakage. If you don't know what to look for when quoting you can get yourself into some trouble... windows are not cheap to replace.

FYI if your looking for 3M solar and security solutions here in Canada, there is a dealer network of companies who are authorized to sell/install 3M films in Canada so don't get duped by a bait n switch. If you check out www.windowfilmcanada.ca it will give you the contact info of the 3m dealer in your area.

Thanks for the information. I already found this site and will probably sub it out for this job. But what if I would like to learn to do it? Where do I start?

sure there are plenty of youtube vids on how to do it.

again the biggest point is the coverage to percentage chart, knowing worse than busting a window because of heat accumulation
