Transistor for Roland

Anybody know if I can check A1746 transistor while its on the board or I have to take it out in order to check with o-meter.

That depends on the meter you are using. There are meters that do not load down circuits to check.

Thanks for replay but this article doesn't mention if you can check transistor while its still soldered to the board. I am not sure if I have to take it out of the board to test.

If you do not have a schematic with test points and values shown, you will need to remove to test. As I stated above even if you have such schematic you will also need an electronic meter.

If you are checking it because you are blowing fuses, then you do not need to remove it from the board, as it is shorted and will read zero ohms across 2 legs, even while still in the board. If you are checking it for any other reason, you will nedd to remove it from the circuit to get an accurate reading of its status.

Thanks Jim, thats the answer I was looking for. Now is there any way I can check if head is causing fuse to blow with O-meter?

I would need to know exactly which model you have to advise you. It would involve hooking the suspected head up to a different channel on the printer. You are now entering an area that should really be dealt with by an experienced technician on-site. I don't know your level of technical expertise. It is also possible it is a bad data cable between the head and carriage board. There are other questions to be asked here, such as have you had any head crashes that could have damaged the head.
